Dr. Lance Giuffrida wimsey1@comcast.net Do you remember how hot it can get in the summer?  Or what its like waiting for a spring thaw while daydreaming about sun bathing and hot days at the beach—always knowing the time will come when we look forward to the cooler days of autumn, just as we are growing impatient for the brighter days of June.  And that is how it should be.  There is a rhythm and a pattern to the time of our life, and we know it, even if we no longer are bound to the seasons.

Here they are:

• What is the name of the planet 3rd from the star Sol?
• What is a noun and a verb?
• Who fought in the Revolutionary War and who won?
• What is the square root of 16?
• Write the words to the pledge of allegiance.

Dr. Lance Giuffrida wimsey1@comcast.net 100 years ago, as the Twentieth Century was ushered in with a wave of enthusiasm, we stood in the shadow of terrible politics that would soon bring the curtain down on the world’s hope for peace.  The War to End All Wars, WWI, was fought on a global stage.  And when it was over, hardly a single person could be found who was not affected by it.  But it didn’t end all war.  WWII erupted with all the fury of hell and evil and ended much the same way.  Then the Mideast. Then Korea. Then Viet Nam. Then the Mideast again. Then Bosnia. Then the Mideast again.
